German...read moreI have to admit I was unsure about joining yet another dog training course. I have 2 dogs one is a Shepweiler the other a rather reactive German Shepherd called Axel. German Shepherds in my experience are super smart and super quick learners and positive reinforced training on its own doesn't work. Axel is a lovely dog people think he's cute but he is hard work. I am so glad I signed up for Dan's course, so much helpful and useful information which works. How do I know this? Because I took Axel to stay at Dog daycare recently and despite my reservations the owner said he was one of the best behaved dogs they had had there. That is all thanks to Dan. The calm freeze - it’s miraculous

I...read moreMy journey with my two Border terriers Leah & Lewis has been a bit stop and start due to me breaking my ankle and therefore couldn’t respond to any behaviour following the code. I used the calm freeze when at all possible but only after seeing it work amazingly with Doggy Dan on stressed out German Shepherd did it become clear how powerful it could be in almost any situation. My 5 year old girl is very highly strung but I didn’t realise that her chasing her tail was actually a sign of stress and we thought it was quite cute. However it just clicked after watching that video why she was doing it - she had seen something outside that worried her and wanted out to chase it away by barking her wee head off. I watched many further videos of the calm freeze in action and found how to do it properly. It totally worked and she ended up laying down beside my feet instead. I now realise actually this applies in all situations when they are becoming overwrought, overexcited or stressed so I would say next to time-out or actually maybe even before this is the most amazing and useful tool I have to use on our training journey. I picked up my rescue dog a month and a half ago, I implemented five golden rules since day one and can say that he's a calm dog, knows he's boundaries inside the house, doesn't pull on the lead. I still need to work on recall (although he's doing very well already) and him being overexcited when meeting people and other dogs, but I can see improvements each day. It's just a beginning of our journey together, but I can see our bond is getting stronger and I'm very happy to see him becoming balanced and calm dog.

Roxy is just...read moreHonestly, I've only had time to work on the 5 golden rules so far but I've been amazed at the difference it makes in stopping excessive barking at ??? who knows what. Roxy is just over a year old and we've had her for 6 months. She's super smart and very high energy and controlling that energy/excitement while out and about is why I was interested in this program. The first time I said "thank you Roxy" while she was barking stopped her in her tracks and she just stood there staring at me waiting and watching. I'm looking forward to working my way through the rest of the program.

But being a covid puppy who spent his early years in an apartment has missed out on some key interactions as a puppy. He finds some situations challenging which is very stressful as his owner to deal with. Learning about the dog calming code has not only helped Winston but also me as his owner. It has been amazing to learn about why dogs behave the way they do. The training has also encouraged us to go for many long walks to implement training.
